The main problem Datapath.io solves is slow internet speed (and thereby bad user experience) caused through datatraffic congestion. Typically BGP does the rerouting to faster routes when others are overloaded. The difference to Datapath.io is,BGP only looks for the (physically) shortest route to redirect data traffic, because in its logic the shortest way is also the fastest. It doesn’t consider how much traffic is already on the route which can lead to internet speed still being slow. Datapath measures how much traffic is on a route and sends the customers traffic over the "emptiest" path. So this way of redirecting is not based on physical distances.
Datapath.io pioneered a new NetDevOps approach to network optimization, which seeks to include internet connections at the hosting provider. It allows NetDevOps to programmatically leverage network switches to improve performance.
Datapath.io monitors the global Internet and finds the fastest internet routes available. Then, with no additional transit costs, routes internet traffic over the faster routes to end users, improving network performance up to 60%. Datapath.io replaces the traditionally reactive and manual procedures of network optimization with a completely automated solution.
